Jr. FIRST LEGO League

Focused on building an interest in science nad engineering in children ages 6-9, Jr.FLL® is a hands-on program designed to capture young children's inherent curiosity and direct it toward discovering the possibilities of improving the world around them.

Just like FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL®), this program features a real-world challenge to be solved by research, critical thinking, and imagination. Guided by adult coaches and the Jr.FLL Core Values, students work with LEGO elements and moving parts to build ideas and concepts and present them for review.

Program Age Group

Teams are comprised of 2-6 children, ages 6-9.

Mentor Commitment Time

1-4 hours per week

Program Theme – Super Seniors

Can Junior FIRST LEGO League teams improve the quality of life for seniors by learning about the obstacles some people face as they get older? In the 2012 SUPER SENIORSTM Challenge, teams will learn about simple machines as they build a model made of LEGO elements with a motorized moving part and create a team Show Me Poster to represent their findings. More than 16,000 children ages 6-9 from five countries will learn about the challenges that some seniors have getting around, keeping in touch with friends and family, or staying active and fit. Jr.FLL has captured the imaginations and minds of thousands of kids. Each year, the Challenge Advisory Team designs a new and exciting challenge to ignite the inherent creativity in young kids. The end result of the design process is a challenge with two defined parts – the Show Me Poster and the Model.
