LEGO® Smart Activity
Materials needed:
- Bulk bricks or a specific set of choice
- Paper
- Pencils
- Crayons
- Notebook
Use this activity as a daily activity or anytime desired. First divide the class into groups of no more than four students, and then give each group a bin of bulk bricks. Give the class a topic; for example, it could be something generic, such as an airplane. Then, give the students a set amount of time to build a model of the airplane. When the model is complete, have the students work together to write a story with illustrations about the airplane. When they have completed the activity, take a picture of the model with the students and have them add it to a notebook so that a class book can be produced. Other options could be to create a digital version of the book by using Microsoft PowerPoint, Prezi (http://prezi.com), Glogster (http://edu.glogster.com/), or other online presentation to showcase the students' work.
NOTE: This same activity could be completed following the theme or topic that your class is currently learning about. For example, if the class is learning about simple machines, then the LEGO® Education Simple Machines Set (9689) could be used. The students could build a model that includes one of the simple machines and then write a story with illustrations that includes a description of the model.
