Robots Powered by the Wind and Sun

This fall NXT robots across the nation will be generating power using wind and solar energy thanks to the new LEGO^® Education Renewable Energy Add-On Set and two free online robotic activities from LEGO Education.

Featuring a range of unique elements including a LEGO Energy Meter with integrated storage, a solar panel, blades, a motor/generator, LED lights, and an extension wire, the add-on set, when paired with the LEGO MINDSTORMS^® Education NXT system, enables students to explore energy concpets while using the new set's elements as sensors.

Students investigate energy supply, transfer, accumulation, conversion, and consumption while using measurements and data analysis to describe and explain outcomes.

The add-on set can also be used with the Simple and Motorized Mechanisms Set. A Renewable Energy Activity Pack for the mechanisms and energy sets is available and provides six 45-minute lessons and four problem-solving activities that enable students to explore renewable energy through LEGO models while connecting their builds to images of real-life energy sources.
